Clinical interests: Neuropsychological assessment for patients presenting with diverse concerns, including neurological, medical, and/or psychiatric concerns; intervention focusing on adjustment to illness/injury; cognitive rehabilitation.
The neuropsychology service at St. Joseph’s Health Care London provides consultation to a variety of clinical programs, including inpatient rehabilitation (e.g., acquired brain injury, stroke, SCI), specialized geriatrics, and ambulatory mental health. Programs have a strong interdisciplinary focus, with team members from neurology, psychiatry, social work, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language therapy, and nursing.
As part of this placement, trainees will have an opportunity to work with diverse presentations, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, neurodegenerative disease, and/or psychiatric conditions. We provide neuropsychology assessment services to inpatient and outpatient programs serving adults and older adults. Trainees will be expected gain exposure and proficiency in all parts of a neuropsychological assessment, including comprehensive medical chart reviews, test selection, clinical interviewing, administration and scoring of comprehensive cognitive test protocols, test interpretation, report writing, and feedback provision.
Neuropsychology assessment results are used to assist in differential diagnosis, provide detailed descriptions of cognitive status and areas of cognitive impairment, support rehabilitation efforts, and/or to comment on issues related to return to work/school.
Additional opportunities are available for intervention with patients admitted to the Inpatient Acquired Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Units. Intervention will focus on adjustment to illness/injury, as well as additional challenges that may present in this setting (e.g., cognitive challenges, sleep difficulties, chronic pain, co-existing mental health challenges).
