Information on Appeals

The regulations concerning appeal and grievance procedures for students in the Clinical Psychology Program are the same as those for graduate students in the Department of Psychology, and, more generally, for all graduate students at Western.  Upon admission, all graduate students in the Psychology Department are made aware of the web-based Graduate Handbook which includes a specific section entitled “Procedures for Graduate Student Appeals on Academic Matters”.  If students are not satisfied with the outcome of their appeal at the departmental level, they can make appeal to the Faculty of Graduates Studies “Appeals of Academic Decision”, and, ultimately, to the Senate Review Board Academic “Graduate Student Academic Appeals”.  The Ombuds Office at Western is a very good source for obtaining further information about academic concerns and appeals.  Their office publishes a number of Student Guides, including: “Academic Problems and Appeals”, “Grade Appeals and Other Requests for Relief”,  and “Appealing to the Senate Review Board Academic”.  Their publication “Guide for Students in Professional Program Placements, Clinics, and Practica” provides very useful information on professional expectations regarding behavior in practica placements, how not following these expectations may lead to serious difficulties in the placement, and how the available remedy for appealing a grade in a practicum placement differs from a traditional academic course.
